Stelios earned his Ph.D. from the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to this, he earned an MSc. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Southampton (UK), an MSc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Glasgow (UK), and finally a BSc. in Statistics and Actuarial-Financial Mathematics from the University of the Aegean (GR).
 
His current research agenda is on understanding the nature and dynamics of human-AI interaction and collaboration. Particularly, he explores various exciting questions, such as how to effectively model the knowledge, behavior, and expectations of humans, and how to explain the decisions of AI systems to human users in a natural fashion. He draws and combines ideas and techniques from several fields, including knowledge representation and reasoning, planning, machine learning, as well as philosophy and cognitive psychology.
