Dr. Efrén López-Morales is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at New Mexico State University. Prior to joining NMSU, he earned his doctorate degree in computer science from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (2025), a master’s degree in computer science from Arizona State University (2020) and a bachelor's degree in computer networks from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico (2012). He also completed a research internship at the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security in Germany (2023).
His research interests include computer security, security of cyber-physical systems (CPS), satellite security, industrial control systems (ICS) security and cyber deception. His research has been published in premier venues including the USENIX Security Symposium and the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS).
He was selected as a CPS Rising Star by the NSF (2025) and received the Best Paper Award at the ACM Workshop on CPS & IoT Security and Privacy (2024).
